Ziyarat Ashura: Ulama Stories

Ziyarat Ashura holds a profound place in Islamic teachings due to its deep spiritual significance. This importance is highlighted in a narration from Safwan by Imam Sadiq (AS), who instructed regular and persistent recitation of this ziyarat. Imam Sadiq (AS) provided several assurances for those who recite it:

1. Their ziyarat will be accepted.
2.Their efforts will be appreciated.
3.Their greetings will reach the Imam (AS) without hindrance.
4.Their needs will be fulfilled by Allah, and they will not return empty-handed.

Devotee in prayer at a sacred Islamic shrine, expressing deep reverence and connection.

Imam Sadiq (AS) emphasized this assurance through a chain of narrations, from Imam Baqir (AS), Imam Sajjad (AS), Imam Hussain (AS), Amir al-Mu’minin (AS), Prophet Muhammad (SAWA), Gabriel, and ultimately from Allah the Almighty, indicating that Ziyarat Ashura is a divine hadith (hadith qudsi). Despite their scholarly commitments, prominent scholars consistently recited Ziyarat Ashura.

Importance of Ziyarat Ashura in the Views of Ulama
1.Ayatollah al-Uzma Sheikh Muhammad Hussain Isfahani
He prayed that his last words be the recitation of Ziyarat Ashura. His prayer was granted, and after completing the ziyarat, his soul ascended.

2. Ayatollah Sheikh Murtadha Ansari (RA)
This great jurist consistently recited Ziyarat Ashura along with 100 curses (la’an) and 100 salutations (salam) in the shrine of Amir al-Mu’minin (AS). His regular practice enabled him to recite the entire ziyarat, including the curses and salutations, within approximately 30 minutes or slightly more.

3.Ayatollah al-Uzma Behjat (RA)
He persistently recited Ziyarat Ashura for many years, completing it daily with 100 curses and 100 salutations. He believed that it was unnecessary to recite all the curses and salutations at once. He recommended that one could recite them gradually during daily activities, such as commuting, working, or engaging in trade. Once the 100 curses and 100 salutations were completed, he advised performing the two units of prayer associated with the ziyarat.
This method allows the individual to remain spiritually present with Imam Hussain (AS) for an extended period, keeping their focus on the Imam without distractions.

A revered Islamic scholar, symbolizing wisdom and spiritual guidance.

Ziyarat Ashura is not merely a devotional act but a spiritual path that connects one to Imam Hussain (AS) and allows them to benefit from its blessings and virtues. The advice and experiences of great scholars show that this ziyarat can be a source of profound spiritual transformation and a means of drawing closer to the infallible Imams (AS).
